Gender, Operations, and Peace Process research team (GOPP)
United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 (2000) recognises the negative impact of armed conflict on women and the important contribution they can make to peace, security and reconciliation. The Resolution calls for greater representation of women in conflict prevention and management. This concerns the need to take account of the gender perspective in the implementation of peace agreements, in particular by supporting initiatives taken locally or beyond, in which a greater number of women participate.
It also aims to promote peace and security initiatives and processes that respect gender equality. Within the CGEPS, the mission of the Gender, Peace Operations and Processes (GOPP) research team is to carry out surveys, studies, analyses and training with a view to informing and assisting decision-making to ensure greater and more effective participation by women in peace operations and processes in Africa and around the world. The team is coordinated by Eric Wilson FOFACK, who is also Executive Director of the CGEPS.
