The Center for Gender, Peace and Security en fran\u00e7ais Centre pour le Genre, la paix et la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 (CGEPS)<\/b> is a centre for research, information, exchange and promotion of the gender approach in the field of peace and security in the global sense of the term. Women and children are considered vulnerable and main victims of crises and armed conflicts. Women in particular are under-represented and even marginalized in peace and post-crisis processes. Since the end of the Cold War in the early 1990s, and in view of the factual reality of crisis and conflict resolution processes, the idea has been growing that women have an important role to play in building a society of peace and global security. They have undeniable strengths in negotiation, crisis and conflict prevention, and in the quest for peace and a harmonious society. To maintain the debate on gender, presented in the form of \"gender equality\" or parity between men and women, peace and security experts have made it a major preoccupation. International organizations such as the United Nations (UN), the African Union (AU), the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) and the Economic and Monetary Community of Central Africa (CEMAC) are all in favor of introducing a gender approach into peace operations (POs), with a view not only to increasing women's involvement in the search for peace solutions, but also to improving their care as victims of sexual abuse and other abuses in wartime.<\/p>\n <\/div>\n \n \n <\/div>\n <\/a>\n <\/div>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

From the need to protect them, we moved on to consider women as actors in peace, security and development. The high point of this dynamic was undoubtedly the 1995 Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, one of whose resolutions was that women should be given the opportunity to play a greater part in conflict prevention and resolution, peace-building and governance, and that they should be protected during conflicts. The text that emerged from the Beijing conference was a major act, positioning itself as the first international document to emphasize the importance of women's security and their contribution to security, peace and development. Since the beginning of the 2000s, the African Union has also been working to increase women's participation in peace operations and processes.<\/p>\n <\/div>\n \n \n <\/div>\n <\/a>\n <\/div>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

At the level of the United Nations, \"Resolution S\/RES\/1325 (2000) on women, peace and security\" is the embodiment of a global dynamic in favor of women's rights. The Security Council has already voted and adopted no less than eight other Resolutions (1820, 1888, 1889, 1960, 2106, 2122, 2242, 2467 and 2493) along the same lines. In addition to these Resolutions, the AU has adopted a series of texts aimed at protecting vulnerable groups, including women and children, the first victims of crises and armed conflicts in Africa. All these texts have in common the issue of the indispensable participation of women in the processes of preventing and resolving crises and conflicts throughout the world. This evolution reveals the United Nations' perception of the security threat, which is now multidimensional, as are the resolution processes.
